TALENT ON TAP // NEW MUSIC FOR JULY
BROUGHT TO YOU BY BURLEIGH BREWING CO.
Words by Emily Halloran | Cover: Selve
We’re halfway through the year and Gold Coast artists are picking up the pace, dropping debut EPs, teasing what’s next, and pushing into new sounds.
Some artists are just getting started – others are hitting their stride. Either way, July has come through with new music from all corners of the Gold Coast scene.
JULY SPOTLIGHT
tomorrow’s forecast: Speaking Terms EP
Female-fronted indie rockers tomorrow’s forecast has released a stunning six-track EP, Speaking Terms – a collection of heartfelt, coming-of-age moments and nostalgia-laced tracks. True to what tomorrow’s forecast has released to date, Speaking Terms reflects 2000s indie with themes around youth, uncertainty and learning to let go.
The EP features three tracks we’re familiar with, and three fresh tunes. It starts strong with Pathetic, a loved track that was released a year ago, to emotionally charged Ribbons that’s been clocking rotations since releasing last month, and ends with Pocket Money, another recent release from June.
Take A Picture, Holding On To You, and When Won’t I Dream Of You are new tracks, All featuring dreamy guitar work, lyrical vulnerability and the band’s signature soft sound with build-ups and grungy moments. Our pick: When Won’t I Dream of You. It’s slightly heavier than previous TF songs and sends the EP out boldy. tomorrow’s forecast is made up of long-time friends Bonnie Kruger, Olive McCagh, Isaac Whittle and Rohan Frawley.
NEW TRACKS
INTRODUCING TRANSIT VENUS
If you’re a fan of low-fi synth-pop, you’ll want to tune in and keep watch of Transit Venus. The duo, made up of vocalist and instrumentalist Lili Marcovich and multi-instrumentalist/producer Kyle Aubrey, have released a smooth single called Smoosho. It’s the first track of more to come, and marks a four-year hiatus since their debut three-track single in 2021. Smooth, sultry, soulful and beautifully mastered by GCMA Studio Producer of the Year, Mattymadeit, the track has already been clocking up the streams.
A STRONG RELEASE FROM BLIND CORNERS
Leaning into 80s/90s rock with a modern edge, Blind Corners have dropped a new single, Dancer. Super catchy, gritty and raw, Dancer explores the loneliness in performance. It’s a lot heavier and alt-rock driven than their last EP, Mud, in 2024 and other releases since forming in 2023. We can’t wait to see what else is to come for Blind Corners this year.
VULNERABLE POP FROM MILLIE
If you’re a fan of playful pop, Millie Atlas is doing it very well. Lonerheart is the second release since Millie Atlas made her debut with Sucks Getting Old in February. It’s a sing-along anthem made for overthinkers and for those who often feel like the odd one out. The song explores the discomfort of being at parties with lines like “Dancing out the door / Get me home—I’m bored,” and embracing that it’s ok to be different.
AN EP FOR THE HOPEFLESSLY DEVOTED
Burleigh-based artist Mikey Finch has released his debut EP, Hopeless Romance. It’s a three-track project influenced by a past relationship with the tracklist of honeymoon phase, mix signals – live, and foolish love. Each song features soft, smooth, psychedelic and lo-fi funk that’s well polished. Track one and three were mixed and mastered from Mikey’s bedroom studio, with the second track, mixed signals – live, a live recorded version of their debut single from last year called Mixed Signals. Our pick is foolish love.
BRAVE AND CONFIDENT
Two new singles from Brave Daisy, Take You Out and Another Man are edgy, punchy and fun. Take You Out features rowdy guitars, bouncy rhythm and a singalong hook – we can hear the confidence and fun in it. Vocalists and guitarist Owen Eley shares: “‘It’s about finding the guts to ask someone out in real life, at a park, a bar, wherever. These days, everything’s online, so there’s something refreshing (and nerve-wracking) about just asking.” The track features a word script recorded by friends, adding an off-beat and fun edge. While Another Man slightly changes pace with fuzzed-out guitar work and softer vocals.
ONE WILL PRICE
One Will Price has returned with his latest single Fire Life. It was written, composed and produced by Will himself. He’s tipped us off that it’s the first of a few tracks he’s been working on that will be dropping this winter. Stay tuned.

CHECK OUT THE NEW SELVE VIDEO…
Selve have unveiled a bold new look and music video for track Loki Horror Picture Show, a song that explores themes of identity, ambition and mental health. The clip was co-directed by frontman and proud Jabirr Jabirr man Loki Liddle and regular visual collaborator Josh Tate, and continues the story from their previous single Breaking Into Heaven, which is part of a forthcoming album currently being mastered. Loki said: “This version of myself in a dying delusion of grandeur is a hyperbolic representation of the parts of ourselves we are willing to sacrifice and compromise in order to pursue a vision of success.”
The band will premiere the forthcoming album live in full for the first time at BLEACH* Festival on Friday 1 August at HOTA, alongside a 33-piece orchestra, immersive visuals and performances from Karul Projects. More details here.
